Shorts are a great choice for summer. Find a length you feel the most comfortable in and rock the shorts. As with many things, you have to try out what works for your comfort level and your body type. In this post, I’m styling a 4 inch, 5 inch and 8 inch pair of shorts. For reference I am 5’5 and have long, slim legs. Many times the shorts that fit me in the waist are too big in the legs to flatter me. I have to look for shorts not only that are a good length on me (no cheeks showing!), but have smaller leg openings.
It seems that a lot of the shorts I like end up being four inch. I’m not against wearing these, but this length sometimes feels a little short when I sit down…but I still wear them. 4 inch shorts are usually long enough to give some upper leg coverage, but short enough to lengthen the leg. This pair is so cute and comfortable. They also come in two washes.
The next length is 5 inches. Here again, I think these give coverage to your upper leg, but still lengthens the leg. This length tends to work best for my body type and leg length. These shorts have been a favorite of mine this summer.
For those of you who like more thigh coverage, I suggest the 8 inch inseam. This length can be easily dressed up with a wedge or heel to create a leg lengthening look that is flattering. These Riviera 8 inch shorts are great with a hook and bar closure and front slash pockets. I always like pockets even though I don’t use them.
There are many factors that contribute to what shorts look best on each of us. The key to finding the best shorts for you is trying different lengths, styles and brands. Body proportions play a large roll in what shorts look best. People may be the same height, but torsos and leg length vary. Many times when I find a fit I like, I will buy various colors and patterns in that short. No one rule applies when finding shorts. Wear what’s comfortable and makes you feel your best!
